URUGUAY HAS A LOT OF FESTIVALS IN THE YEAR

HALLOWEEN

It's on 31st October, children wear costumes, and at night they knock on doors and say "trick or treat", and if you don’t give them some sweets, they throw eggs or paper at your house.

CARNIVAL
It's the longest in South America.
It starts in January and finishes in March.
During this festival some people wear costumes and paint their faces.
There are specials places for "murgas"(groups of people who dance and sing) to perform, they're called "tablados", and artists compete for the first prize, which is money for the next year.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

It's on 31st December.
On this day families get together, and drink beer, wine, etc. and eat meat.
At 12 o'clock people have a toast and say “Happy New Year!”

CHRISTMAS EVE

Families get together and eat and drink, and at 12 o'clock at midnight, people exchange presents and say "Merry Christmas"
