a high standard of living. It’s one of the safest countries in South
America.

visit it every year.

It has a population of three million people with African and European immigrants,
especially from Spain. One million and a half live in Montevideo, the capital
city, in the south of the country.

People love visiting craft and street markets and shopping malls. Football is
the most popular sport. In general, Uruguayans love sports, going to the stadium
and to the cinema. They love walking along the beautiful coast, drinking mate,
a traditional drink.
Uruguayans listen to tango, murga, candombe and rock.

Uruguay is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Tourism is the most
important industry because there are many seaside resorts which offer fun and
relax for all ages.
It is an important producer of wool, meat and rice.
